Graduate Student: Organismal Biology And Anatomy/Neurosciences

Chicago, Il

I studied the anatomical and molecular evolution of the mammalian neocortex. The expansion of this six-layered structure in humans is thought to be directly responsible for our advanced cognitive abilities. I found that even though birds and reptiles don't have a neocortex, their forebrains do share similar patterns of connections and the cells in their cognitive centers bear strikingly similar molecular signatures to our own. My advisor for this work was Dr. Clifton Ragsdale.

While my work here began as a floor phone operator, answering incoming customer service calls for a major midwest energy company, I was quickly promoted to a supervisory position.
