I have been appointed as a part time lecturer at Sefako Makgatho Medical University (previously known as Medunsa) in Garankuwa. I am presenting an astronomy course to 3rd year medical students. Many of my 2018 Friday mornings will be spent teaching and on a few Friday evenings the students will learn practical astronomy at the monthly observing sessions of the Pretoria astronomy club.The course is one of a few subject options for students to broaden their general education. Nonetheless, fail the course and fail the entire year - but they would have to show no interest at all if they were not to make the grade. Fifteen students have elected to do this course.At last my book Astronomy Within Reach will be used in formal education - it is the course textbook. Linked-in does not cater for multiple working activities, so the part-time lecturing is in addition to my primary Technical Writing activity and additional astronomy edutainment activities.

Management of the DVB CSA licence application process, whereby manufacturers of decoders for the broadcasting industry apply to be licensed to use the Common Scrambling Algorithm for conditional access. Irdeto is one of the companies jointly owning and licencing the CSA. I manage the licencing process for Irdeto on behalf of the CSA companies.This function is performed on an ongoing, part-time basis. I continue to write technical documents for other contractors.

Managed the formal release and distribution of satelite decoder software to licensed partners

Managed the configuration and controlled release of software for Irdeto Access (www.irdetoaccess.com) for 10 years. They are (originally) the South African company who developed the DSTV PayTV system in use in South Africa.

At Grid Publication Design, I wrote a wide range of Instruction and Maintenance manuals for: an Aircraft Arrestor Barrier; a popular brand luxury touring bus; the Passenger Loading Bridges at Johannesburg International Airport; various items of military equipment. My manuals for a Giant Automated Vat cleaning machine were translated into French, German and Spanish.

At Factum Electronics I managed a reverse engineering documentation project, where electronic equipment needed to be analysed and understood so that full documentation packs could be generated. These documentation packs included detailed Technical Descriptions and Manufacturing Information resources.
