Client a low-cost polyolefin non-toxic FR compound branded PAL...The Clean Plastic as a direct replacement for flexible PVC and R&D100 awardee. A second product line branded PAL...VersaCHAR, is an intumescent (char-forming) polyolefin, which is non-toxic and chars only, V-0 rated, PAL VersaCHAR passed FAA testing for use in the interiors of commercial aircraft and available for use in other industries. Recently a non-toxic FR polyurethane compound has been developed. The foregoing are believed to be unique and the only non-toxic FR polyolefines available globally My role is as a long-term strategic advisor, in addition to actively seeking new market and growth opportunities.

Work side-by-side with Whitford management, marketing and technical personnel on three separate occasions to identify markets, customers and develop opportunities for specialty low-friction and water repellent, abrasion resistance and high-temperature finishes and coatings for treatment of fiber, yarns, woven, knitted and nonwoven fabrics. Help commercialize a low friction fiber for use in toes and heels of socks.

Advisory and business development for highly-successful E-CTFE (Halar) and proprietary nonwoven fabric was developed by Solvay (then Ausimont) which remains the material of choice in certain market applications, where extreme chemical and/or temperature resistances are required. Recalled in 2009 to assist create two proprietary fibers, nonwoven fabrics and market development in an intensive and potentially highly profitable program. Assignment ended when Solvay opted to use internal personnel and internal management change.

Oak Ridge, Tn

Consulted for ICS, a start-up company beginning in 2003 to bring new business opportunities to the company for their pleated corrosion-resistant ceramic filter constructed from a wet laid ceramic nonwoven fabric. The filter is capable of 1200 degrees C, far less expensive than traditional ceramic filters, able be be cleaned in-situ, rapidly by several economical means. This pleated ceramic filter is believed to be the only such product in the market. An agreement for a specialty application was signed with a Fortune 100 company. Activities concluded when the company ran out of financing and was sold.

Advisory and market development activities with senior management at NatureWorks, LLC (originally named Cargill-Dow, LLC) to scale up and commercialize PLA (polylactic acid) polymer for use in fiber, textiles and nonwoven applications from pilot scale polymer development though scale-up of a 300 million pound manufacturing facility. Focus was three concurrently strategies: 1.) market and product development of an unproven bio-polymer throughout the entire textile manufacturing chain. 2.) create interest and downstream products acceptable to brand-owners 3.) establish the NatureWorks, LLC brand in the fibers, technical textiles and nonwoven markets. Activities concluded when a new commercial director opted to concentrate on the apparel market.

Developed and established a variety of nonwoven fabrics in the market for filtration, including the first hydroentangled nonwoven fabric branded Durapex for use in baghouse filtration. Concurrently served as a key accounts representative presenting Avintiv (then named PGI Nonwovens) for several nonwoven fabrics, including Halar nonwoven fabrics to the filtration industry. Was terminated when PGI Nonwovens filed for bankruptcy.

Division Manager responsibilities for a $29 million division providing precision woven monofilament fabrics for high-performance applications in the aerospace, automotive, CPI, diagnostic device, filtration and medical device industries. Lead a growth strategy based on a forward integration process, which has since paid large and handsome dividends in both company top and bottom-line growth. Left Sefar and formed Edward C. Gregor & Associates, LLC.

Ann Arbor, Mi

Gelman Sciences, Inc. was a mid-size manufacturer of microporous membranes and filters until sold to Pall Corporation in 1997. My initial responsibilities was business manager for OEM products, followed by director of medical device marketing. Both were highly successful. Ultimately assigned VP of Gelman Sciences Technology, Inc. a newly formed division to commercialize a high-speed manufacturing process to manufacture and supply oleophobic microporous membranes via a UV polymerization process. The technology was multi-focused, including use in specialty medical markets and primarily to compete with Gore-Tex. We won an R&D 100 award for the first oleophobic membrane. The technology had several technical advantages, was easily price competitive, but not able to compete with the Gore-Tex brand. I left shortly thereafter.
