Feb 1981 - Dec 1989Ann Arbor, MiGelman Sciences, Inc. was a mid-size manufacturer of microporous membranes and filters until sold to Pall Corporation in 1997. My initial responsibilities was business manager for OEM products, followed by director of medical device marketing. Both were highly successful. Ultimately assigned VP of Gelman Sciences Technology, Inc. a newly formed division to commercialize a high-speed manufacturing process to manufacture and supply oleophobic microporous membranes via a UV polymerization process. The technology was multi-focused, including use in specialty medical markets and primarily to compete with Gore-Tex. We won an R&D 100 award for the first oleophobic membrane. The technology had several technical advantages, was easily price competitive, but not able to compete with the Gore-Tex brand. I left shortly thereafter.
