I lead teams and projects which transform the Guardian's journalism and products. My audience development work deepens the Guardian's relationships with its users online, and delivers strategic projects that enable the organisation to re-configure itself around user needs.I led a cross-functional team which developed new metrics, KPIs and data infrastructure for the whole business, oriented around the Guardian’s shift to focus on relationships and membership. This included pioneering research into trust, affinity and participation as well as integrating reach and loyalty metrics and resolving conflicting datasets.My teams have built a Facebook audience of 7m on one page alone, and a network of dozens more which drive significant traffic, as well as substantial Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and other off-platform audiences which introduce new users to our journalism on a daily basis. We have developed the Guardian's first Facebook bot, with tens of thousands of daily users, and our first voice-assisted interface for Amazon Echo. We have designed and implemented new email creation tools and a new sign-up system which boosted acquisition by 1,000%. We have developed the Guardian's first machine-learning bot for comments, and completely overhauled moderation tools. We have implemented a recommendation engine for app users that significantly increased usage, and created community journalism that has led directly to increased membership revenue.

I devised and implemented a new audience development and engagement approach, and grew the user base 30% in six months while also seeing deepening loyalty among existing audiences. I managed a small team, working closely with editors, reporters and journalists of all varieties, as well as product and data teams in the UK head office.I developed the crowdsourcing and promotion approaches for the Counted, our project to track people killed by US police; the database had more than 1m views in six months, and our system enabled us to uncover several deaths that otherwise would have gone unreported.

I headed audience development for the Guardian's Australian edition from launch in 2013, doubling traffic in a year and building email products, community approaches and a full audience strategy to develop loyalty. The Guardian is now the fifth largest news site in the country.

I oversaw and ran queries on a property management database, using Access as an alternative front-end, and helped to redesign the back end to new specifications. I also did data cleaning and integration work.
