I oversee the Interpretive Center at the Arcata Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary and assist visitors with information about the flora, fauna and history of the Marsh, as well as act as a representative of the City Of Arcata, fielding questions and concerns regarding operations at the Marsh. I work with the Friends of the Arcata Marsh Board of Directors and volunteers on special events, docent-led tours and weekend staffing. I lead Interpretive walks and coordinate tours of the Marsh for schools and other groups. I train volunteers on the procedures of staffing the Interpretive Center and schedule them for weekend shifts. I conduct research and compile data regarding invasive plant removal for Environmental Services managers. I manage the Arcata Marsh's social media account and undertake special projects assisting the Recreation Supervisor at the City of Arcata. I compile monthly statistics and data regarding Marsh activities to be submitted annually for funding purposes.

As an employee in the Recreation department I represent a diverse and prestigious open space preservation agency dedicated to serving residents of Alameda and Contra Costa counties.I have planned and led Outdoor Recreation programs which range from skills based kayaking and canoeing classes to custom made outings for underserved communities. I have surveyed and scouted hikes to create write ups for our popular and long running Trails Challenge program. Every year more than 10,000 people participate in this free self-guided hiking and bicycling program to explore the East Bay Regional Parks and to keep fit outdoors. I've assisted in coordinating large scale volunteer efforts such as California Coastal Cleanup Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day Of Service. I worked with Supervisors to create databases, gather statistics, and answer public inquiries to Volunteer Services, giving information and collaborating with park staff as needed to pair individuals and corporate groups with volunteer projects.I coordinated and ran projects such as Teen Eco Action Week, a five day program which offers teens from Oakland, Richmond and Bay Point the opportunity to engage with role models in their community, discover the ecosystem in nearby Regional Parks, complete restoration projects, and explore employment options.

I coordinated and led outdoor education programs for children, teens and adults in the Marin Headlands, Point Reyes National Seashore, and Point Montara. The Outdoor Hostel Adventure program, which was offered at these three locations, enabled students from Northern California to explore protected coastal areas with a Naturalist guide. Groups embarked on an all day program before retiring to a historic youth hostel, where they shared a communal experience with other travelers and hostel guests. A two hour sensory night hike and stargazing program ends their day of fun and adventure, hopefully leaving the children feeling empowered and more connected to the natural world.

Marin Headlands Hostel

As the Groups Coordinator for the Marin Headlands hostel I was the contact person for all group reservations at a historic facility with capacity for 106 guests. I managed deposits, payments, and paperwork for all rentals.As the acting manager I worked closely with the Executive Director, Finance Manager, and National Park Service staff to successfully run a multifaceted youth hostel. I hired and managed live in staff and ensured that the facility passed health and safety inspections, and LEED certification standards for green businesses. In addition to the daily duties of a hospitality manager I was responsible for the upkeep of three turn of the century buildings in compliance with Golden Gate National Recreation Area and Hostelling International standards.
