My background with the Patent Office and with General Dynamics gives me insight to how the IP Law system works and how companies profit from it. As a founder of Brown Martin Haller and McClain, I got first hand experience in running a small business which gave me an appreciation for the challenges faced by businesses in growth and profitability. I wrote hundreds of patent and trademark applications and have followed my client's to see how they benefited from their acquisition of IP. I have litigated patents, trademarks and copyrights as plaintiff's and defendant's attorney and have developed strategies to reduce the cost and risk of those legal actions. I have prepared due diligence reports, and validity and infringement opinions which has given me a background in IP valuations. I'd like to parley my experience by providing independent consulting services to help companies indentify their IP assets and the strength of their protection. To do this effectively I believe that an IP consultant should agree in advance, not to solicit the client's IP work, but rather to make evaluations of the work done by others and to make recommendations for additional or supplemental protection as well as assess the risk of enforcement actions against the company for infringement of third party IP.Specialties: U.S. patent and trademark acquisition, international protection including patents acquired via the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), the European Patent Office (EPO) and trademarks through the Madrid Protocol and European Community Trademark (CTM).
