Researching and working on industry project of "Monitoring System of Accidental Damage in Aircraft Composite Structure resulting from Ground Vehicles in Airports". This industry project is a collaboration of Sensorcraft Technology (S) Pte Ltd and Republic Polytechnic.Commercial aircraft in-between flights are usually surrounded by equipment, ground vehicles, and carts during handling and ground operations. With limited time during the turnaround, the aircraft has a high chance of suffering composite structure damage on the external surfaces made of composite, caused by low-velocity impacts from ground vehicles.As composite will not change shape or dent when there is an impact on the composite structure, cracks will not be able to be seen easily, especially during bad weather, low visibility, and at night.In addition, if the damage is caused by staff driving ground vehicles, due to fear of losing their jobs and punishment, workers will not want to file a report, endangering the lives of everyone on board if such damage is not seen. The project objective is to develop a system that will sense for damage and ensure that all damages will be reported by the system via a communication means.
