The goal of my research is to improve human health by developing computational techniques and interfaces that enable scientists and clinicians to efficiently interact with biomedical data. I design, implement and evaluate methods and tools that leverage the knowledge and cognitive skills of biomedical and clinical investigators in order to enable the interpretation of large and heterogeneous data sets.My work is motivated by the rapid advance in technologies used to generate, store, and compute on massive biomedical data sets and the tremendous opportunity for deep insights offered by tools that enable the efficient and reproducible integration, visualization, and exploration of these data. Such tools are essential for investigators to generate hypotheses, interpret analysis results, and ultimately make informed decisions based on their data.In my research I combine methods from a wide range of fields, primarily data visualization and bioinformatics, but also from information retrieval, machine learning, and human-computer interaction. Interdisciplinary collaboration is central to my approach. Apart from the end users of the interactive techniques I develop, I also aim to involve other computational experts to optimize the integration of my work into the overall analysis process.
