Senior Developer

At MGM I was charged with the job of heading up the technical side of the new "Digital Wing" of the institution - otherwise known as Digital Distribution Management (DDM).Recognising the need to move into digital distribution, MGM started a digital wing in order to forward these aspirations. While working for DDM I was in charge of installing, administering and technically supporting the software and platforms that allowed MGM to upload digital assets to digital music aggregators such as iTunes, BigPond, CD Baby, SoundBuzz and the like.Essentially, we built the digital wing of MGM from the ground up, while also being required to integrate everything we developed with the legacy systems already in place to manage the "Physical" side of MGM.I was in charge of designing, planning and implementing a data management system for MGM that allowed them to manage their assets (both digital and physical). I designed and implemented an intranet that allowed staff to load "Label Copy" into the Chase Management Database (MGMs new online database) while simultaneously delivering this data to statutory bodies such as AMCOS, ARIA and APRA automatically, over the internet. We set-up and administered MGM's new database and web servers.I also worked on a web-based system that allowed clients of MGM to upload their own music and manage their own "meta-data", securely, on MGM's servers.I was charged with developing systems in MGM's SAP HR and accounting software. This has given me invaluable experience with HR and asset management databases in general and taught me a lot about developing solutions for enterprise wide accounting systems and HR systems. At MGM I was required to project manage these developments from the ground up. I was also required to work closely with other developers and users to come up with solutions, quickly, that satisfied the requirements of the staff and clients of MGM.

Database Publisher, Web Services / Publications

My job at the Publications Department of the University of Sydney involved publishing the University Handbooks while simultaneously developing the Handbooks Online system. The Handbooks Online system was a project that I envisaged, designed, planned, managed and implementedfor the University.I worked closely with the University of Sydney Web Services team to develop an entire system for collating content and publishing the University Handbooks. At a presentation of the Handbooks Online system, Andrew Treloar (Senior Project Manager / Academic with Monash University, Information Management) said that the process of XML to HTML and PDF publishing being used was "a very elegant solution". In my time at Sydney University I fielded calls from other Universities and institutions regarding the Handbooks Online system asking how they could implement something similar themselves.

Senior Analyst/Programmer

Etc (Educational Testing Centre), Unsw

After working for IDEAS systems (see IDEAS systems section below), I resumed work for the ETC, but this time directly contracted to them.My expertise, my complete system knowledge, and my fast learning abilities made me an obvious choice for their continuing IT needs. I started work on a system (inventively) called MARPII (see section on MARP below). I worked on the data-loading section of MARPII - mainly on my own. The aim of MARPII was to make the slowest parts of MARP more efficient. Within a couple of months, we took a process (the loading of millions of lines of student response data) that had been taking 3-days to complete (running on multiple computers 24 hours a day) and had cut it down to 1 hour (running on only one computer).

Jun 2000 - Mar 2002

Analyst/Programmer

Ideas Systems

My duties with IDEAS Systems involved a range of projects from small in-house business-tool creation to large-scale database systems, intranets, customer management systems and in-depth statistical analysis / reporting systems. One of IDEAS Systems largest clients was the Educational Testing Centre (ETC). At the ETC we worked on a large-scale data-analysis and business-management system called MARP which controlled and published the "Schools Competitions" for the ETC. The Schools Competitions are educational tests that are delivered to schools around the world by the ETC each year. MARP controls everything from sending tests out to schools, collecting results and statistical analysis through to the delivery of reports to students, parents, schools and the government. I worked in a team of five programmers who designed the database and implemented all of the software to run and maintain the system.
