As an English and Computer Science major focusing on cybersecurity and algorithm complexity, I love exploring new technologies and creative problem-solving. I'm very interested in understanding the "why" and "how" behind technological advances. From engineering choices, like opting for velcro over a zipper, to larger milestones, like turning a room-sized computer into something smaller than a Pop-Tart in our pockets. The English part of my education helps me to better understand the technology I come across and to think creatively and artistically. In my education I've been lucky enough to learn about both new and fascinating kinds of writing and effective forms of communication through writing. The combination of these two seemingly independent fields gives me a unique insight towards technology, critical analysis and reasoning, reading, writing, and editing.

In my time at Studio45 I've been active on a number of different projects. I am involved with their digital marketing campaigns, member announcements and updates, shop management/upkeep, and all kinds of meetups and events. Because of Studio 45's emphasis on supporting hardware-focussed startups, I have also been able to mingle with and learn from industry leaders on the topics of design and manufacturing.More broadly, this position allows me a unique opportunity to meet and connect with the Bay Area startup ecosystem, providing introductions with companies investing in or developing virtually any kind of technology.

Served as a programming counselor for Beam Camp, a sleep-away summer camp devoted to teaching campers high-level fabrication. The "programming" aspect of my title designated that I was part of a small team of camp staff that were responsible for helping to plan several all-camp activities throughout both the first and second camp sessions (four and two weeks long, respectively). My role in these activities ranged from brainstorming, planning, basic setup and logistics coordination, and leading. This role honed my ability to work and coordinate with others, especially in an environment with limited internet and cell phone service (putting an emphasis on face-to-face communication). As a counselor I was responsible for the children in my cabin, 12-13 boys aged 8-13 years old (across both sessions) alongside one other co-counselor. Tasks included keeping track of the campers during all-camp roundups (mealtimes, larger activities, etc.), facilitating move-in (assuring that campers had everything they needed to stay clean and comfortable), facilitating move-out (assuring that each camper has everything of theirs with them and packed), wake-ups, and bedtimes. Additionally, I was responsible for assuring that each camper in my cabin is happy, various issues among campers required continuous attention throughout their time at camp. Often this role would require being "on" (available and attentive to the campers) for almost 24 hours at a time. This role stretched and improved my ability to work under high-stress fast-paced environments, work with children, and occasionally put other's needs before my own.As a staff member at this camp I learned and assisted with metal working (measuring, grinding, cutting, beveling, welding, bending, etc.), wood working (measuring, cutting, sanding, staining/finishing, etc.), circuit building (soldering, wire cutting/stripping, basic troubleshooting, etc.), and much more.
