Hi! My name is Nia, and I am an enthusiastic, creative writer with a passion for uncovering cross-cultural disparities, primarily focusing on black culture in Philadelphia and beyond. Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Communication with a focus in Public Relations as well as a master of science in Strategic and Digital Communication through Drexel University, I have had the privilege of building an academic and professional portfolio that reflects my experiences with cultivating course materials and media platforms that emphasize and encourage open discussions about diversity in the classroom and the workplace.While looking through my professional and academic history, you will come across multiple samples that showcase my writing skills and experience working within the realms of content production and event management. There are multiple graphics and media campaigns that I have created as the Marketing Director of Drexel’s K-Pop Club that highlight our club’s mission to bridge an overlooked cultural gap between Korean and U.S. traditions. As the Marketing Director and Event Coordinator for the organization, I have the responsibility of creating, overseeing, and advertising events that encapsulate the essence of Korean culture while ensuring that our club exposes the student body to all positive facets of the traditional Korean experience. Working within these two major roles has allowed me to strengthen my skills in writing, graphic design, copyediting, team management, curating, and more. Connecting my passion for exposing others to the complexities of black culture to my professional experiences, I have had the privilege of completing three internships that have allowed me to express my creativity and motivated me to start a personal blog that is set to be published this spring. Heavily writing intensive, my internships with College Ave Student Loans and Oracle gave me multiple opportunities to strengthen my copy-editing and writing skills which gave me the confidence to start my blog, travelbuddysally. What started as a small, silly visual media blog about a plush chicken that I carry with me during my travels transformed into a system of connections between me and my followers. Traveling across five continents, my blog serves as a medium for me to lessen cultural gaps and expose my followers to cultures they may not know about. As I spend my senior year in Scotland researching black culture and history in the United Kingdom, I am well-equipped and excited to frequently update my blog using the skills that I acquired through my internships.
