I managed the day-to-day operations of the City of Philadelphia's Zero Waste and Litter Cabinet. The goals of the Cabinet were to create a plan to achieve a Zero Waste Goal in Philadelphia by 2035 as well as create the strategies and interdepartmental collaboration with commercial businesses, community groups and citizens to address the City's litter problem.

Although I am not formally trained as a landscape designer, I used my experience in horticulture and agriculture as well as my green space development experience to work with these groups and implement what I called the Community Integrated Design Process. My main goal was to give the groups ownership and understanding of the design process through experiential learning. I co-founded this organization in 2009 with Erica Smith in West Philadelphia. During our time working together, we developed the Woodland Community Garden and the Walnut Hill Community Farm. We also created the Philly Rooted Youth Grower's Cooperative where we leveraged resources to subsidize farm operations for four West Philly young adults to cooperatively grow and sell produce to secure their wages. This taught entrepreneurism and agriculture through real life experience.
