The FunDza Literacy Trust is dedicated to empowering young South Africans through enhanced literacy. FunDza is building a community of readers by leveraging mobile social media technology. It is seeking partnerships with other organisations and companies that share its core value - that young people, empowered through the ability to read, are key to building a successful, healthy and just South Africa. Founded in April 2011 - I was responsible for sharing the FunDza story from its early start-up phase: using traditional media and social media; growing partnerships; building relationships with supporters; and in thinking creatively about our strategy and its implementation. FunDza has multiple stakeholders, from funders; to end readers; to teachers; to literacy advocacy groups; to journalists; writers and other suppliers. It is essential to communicate with each of these groups using the most appropriate medium. FunDza has 50 000 monthly readers on its mobi-library and over 4000 follower on both Twitter and Facebook and over 250 beneficiary reading groups around South Africa. We have brought on multiple funders whose objectives to see systemic change in South African society matched our own and were able to retain almost all of those in a difficult fundraising climate. I was the Head of Marketing for the Johannesburg region of Investec Private Bank. My mandate was to support the front-line consultants in successfully acquiring clients in existing and new markets; maximising the opportunity with existing clients through cross-selling; and developing a sustainable business through ensuring distinctive client experience. In order to achieve this I worked with business heads and the management team to identify opportunities and devise and ensure the implementation of strategic marketing plans for each team. The overall objective of the plans was to ensure growth in the number, quality and profitability of clients aligned to the bank.The particular focus was to work closely with distribution to ensure strategic clarity and consistency across the business. There were approximately 15 teams with 10 individuals in each team.
