We are not here to do only one thing.Five seconds worth of scrolling this page will reveal that I am a person of many interests, and I believe that every single one matters to the betterment of society in a unique manner. These are not contradictions but opportunities to approach societal issues with more than one perspective in mind. A few examples: I am studying computer science and psychology together; I am a creative writer and a technical writer; I am studying Spanish and English. With these diverse combinations, I can address the intersectional and interdisciplinary issues in our society such as the effect of new media that evolves faster than its users, marginalized voices and experiences, and barriers to knowledge.Equality is Social Progress.In this same vein, it is crucial to not leave people as well as key information out of the narrative. Diversifying my knowledge of topics is a part of my goal to unite perspectives that tend to clash. As a member of several minority groups (black, asian, mixed race, lgbtqia+, neurodiverse, invisibly disabled, first generation), I live every day knowing that my life is a direct juxtaposition to unilateral viewpoints of what benefits the "average" person. As I fight for the people within these communities, I understand how important it is to take into consideration as many different perspectives as logically possible while designing, deploying, updating, and implementing products. I find ethics to be an interesting discussion in the context of technology when it meets these societal concerns.New is Not Good, Nor Bad.New media is praised for being the perfect, most efficient solution to our problems. It's also regarded as the worst thing that could have happened to my generation. Naturally, as a student of intersectionalities, I do not agree with either. Technology is a tool and is incapable of being inherently good or bad, so that means that people in positions that create new technology need to be aware that their design will have consequences. Rewriting the narrative that technology can't be wrong because it's inhuman is necessary to progress in this field. This is the motive behind my study of Cyberpsychology (undergrad) and Science, Technology, and Society (future grad plans): Tech that Helps, not Harms.Hello! I go by Nich and welcome to my profile.
