Following the centralisation of all Leek-based HR support services to Manchester I took redundancy; however, before exiting the business I had the opportunity to undertake this temporary role to support the transition of the business, following the merger between Britannia Building Society and The Co-operative Banking Group, to support the harmonisation of HR policy across the two heritage organisations. This involved researching, writing and consulting on policy in a unionised environment.

Covering a period of maternity leave, I managed the HR Advice Team for Britannia Building Society during the merger with the Co-operative Banking Group, managing four HR Advisors and a Specialist Employee Relations Consultant; reporting to the HR Operations Manager.The focus of the team was to coach managers to resolve employee relation issues, including misconduct, capability, absenteeism, grievance and any other formal processes in a multi-site environment. I was accountable for managing the team, maintaining and developing levels of service during a period of significant change, identifying opportunities for continued improvement whilst supporting the centralisation of all Leek-based HR services to Manchester. Based in Leek 3 days and Manchester City Centre 2 days per week.

Following an internal HR restructure, I moved across into this newly formed role to provide specialist advice and support to managers – aiming to support the swift resolution of complex, high risk and/or high-profile employee relations issues. Accountable for my own case load, alongside supporting and mentoring two HR Advisors. Personally responsible for collating key HR metrics relating to casework and for identifying and implementing proactive initiatives to prevent issues from reoccurring, including devising and delivering training workshops to people managers.

Accenture is an HR outsourcing company. My role was to provide advice over the telephone to a designated division of British Telecom (BT), coaching managers the management of absenteeism and poor performance. I managed a caseload of approx. 120 cases (at any one time) and was responsible for building and maintaining effective relationships with the clients, TU representatives and third-party services, such as Occupational Health.
