I was trained at Chetham's School, RNCM, the Geneva Conservatoire, Musikhochschule Frankfurt and the University of Edinburgh. Following an early career as a solo pianist, I worked as a teacher, translator and in artist management, resuming performing after encouragement from Murray Perahia (at Aldeburgh 1993) and Menahem Pressler (at Banff Center for the Arts, Canada 1996).I resumed regular performance activity as a result of recitals at Edinburgh's Queen's Hall, one of which was recorded and released on CD (in 1996). From 2000-2022 I was a guest artist and co-artistic director (2002-2023) of the Hamburg Chamber Arts/Hamburger Kammerkunstverein, where I performed over 80 separate solo and chamber recital programmes. In 2008, a world premiere recording of the complete solo piano works and the piano quintet by Robert Crawford for Delphian Records received international media praise.I have given recitals and masterclasses throughout the UK and Germany in the USA (Central Washington University, 2005, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, 2009), Finland (Pirkenmaa University, Tampere, 2009, 2010) and Italy (Amici della Musica, Udine, 2013) and at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and the University of Manchester.I have recorded many times for the BBC, on West German NDR 2 and 4, Bayern 4, Radio Swisse Romande, Radio New Zealand and the USA. My repertoire is extensive in solo repertoire, chamber music and contemporary repertoire for two pianos. I am a Principal Tutor in Piano at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and at the University of Edinburgh. For 29 years, I was Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Music at Edinburgh Napier University, acting as Director for Quality Assurance for the School of Arts and Creative Industries from 2011-2015. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.I was Specialist External Assessor for Piano at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (2010-20), and at St.Mary's Music School (2011-2013). I have wide experience as an adjudicator, including at Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Eton College, the High School of Dundee, St Mary's Music School. I was a member of the Board of Directors at the Scottish International Piano Competition in 2014. I have a strong interest in performing new and contemporary works for two pianos with the distinguished Lithuanian pianist, Lauryna Sableviciute. Our duo is entitled Re:Sono; in addition to many performances in the UK, we have performed and recorded recently in Lithuania (April 2023), premiering new works by British and Lithuanian composers.
