Lead a small team that brought a new traffic safety product to market. Created functional prototypes of two other products. Brought computer vision capability to an existing product using an underpowered embedded linux solution. Kept things going through the COVID supply mess. Paid my own salary (and more!) through sensible cost reductions, on top of other duties.

Design, build, program prototype robots. The company hired me to produce a robotic toy companion which can recognize faces and understand speech.I used 3D CAD (Autodesk Fusion 360) to design the robot and its casing, then 3D printed and assembled it.I programmed the robot using Python and C. I researched computer vision techniques and algorithms and implemented them.I wrote proposals to successfully obtain research grants from the National Research Council.I presented working prototypes to representatives of the National Research Council and investors.

At Pleiades Robotics I worked as part of a team of electrical, mechanical and computer engineers to develop a working prototype and start production of an autonomous quadcopter drone.I was responsible for designing the casing and internal parts of the drone as well as sourcing and selecting all of the components other than the individual items on the circuit boards.I designed and built testing apparatus, researched suppliers in North America and Asia, purchased or requested samples and evaluated their performance and made a decision.I was also responsible for creating a plan for manufacturing the drone and calculating the total cost (labour + materials) of assembly - we planned to assemble the first few thousand drones in our flight test facility in Halifax. To do this I maintained a bill of materials based on quotes I obtained from manufacturers.

I designed and built custom food processing equipment (primarily materials handling and processing devices like conveyors and shaker tables) using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD. I worked independently and as part of a team to design equipment and access catwalks in compliance with Charlottetown Metal Products (CMP)'s standards and all applicable food and operator safety standards.I also traveled to job sites to assist project management with installation and commissioning of our equipment. I created installation schedules in coordination with other contractors on site and the delivery of materials to the job site either from CMP's facility in PEI or from local contractors. I worked with tradespeople to solve problems as they occurred and communicated with engineers at CMP about the root causes of equipment problems. To this date, every McDonalds french fry served in Oregon, Washington State and Idaho has travelled through equipment I helped design and comission.
