As Assistant Energy Manager for all US Temple Campuses Nicholas worked to ensure that energy efficiency projects are targeted, scoped and implemented to maximize economic benefit and carbon intensity reduction. Nicholas was deeply involved in working to meet our Carbon Action Plan goals with other Temple departments through energy projects, energy efficiency and renewable energy procurement. The largest project related to this was the Renewable Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in which Temple is procuring renewable energy for 50% of its entire electrical portfolio. This is a $62 million project.Nick also managed a large number of energy efficiency upgrade projects for the university which included mechanical, civil and electrical engineering components. These have been largely very success in helping the university being more sustainable, meeting its utilities budget and furthering its climate action goals.Additionally Nicholas was also involved in energy accounting for the domestic Temple campuses through distribution meter analysis and the creation of internal bills. Nick worked to maximize automation of the energy accounting system so he can spend more time leading energy efficiency projects.

Nicholas worked as a Energy Engineer in the Commercial Building Energy Services group at SWA. His major focuses were ASHRAE level 2 energy audits, energy analyses, system optimization, retro-commissioning of commercial buildings and working with building managers to meet energy efficiency goals. Additionally Nicholas worked on projects as a Commissioning Agent on numerous Mid & High rise residential buildings for LEED New Construction and local energy codes in New York City, Philadelphia and New Jersey. The clients he worked with were varied from government agencies, developers, educational organizations, private building manages and non-for-profits. New York City have some of the most stringent local energy laws on building managers, Nicholas helped them navigate these and has a passion for achieving concrete energy efficiency outcomes.Some highlights:-Commissioned mechanical systems for new high-rise residential buildings in New York City and problem solved with clients to ensure the building is running as best as possible.-Worked on innovative project with NYC’s Department of Citywide Services (DCAS) that used building data analytics to target buildings to develop the best energy efficiency opportunities available.-Lead in-depth technical review for NYSERDA and ConEdison’s demand reduction incentive applications by utilizing energy savings validation testing methodologies and producing measurement and verification reports.-Conducted energy audits and worked adaptively with building managers to the identify and calculate savings for potential energy conservation measures in large commercial buildings, offices, schools, hospitals and warehouses (100,000 to 1.8 million square feet).

Water resources modelling for Victorian surface water. This includes specific system yield modelling and taking into account social and environmental impacts. Modelling and planning for the impacts of climate change are becoming an increasingly large part of the work involved in this area of water engineering. As part of the Water Resource Team Nick gained extensive experience in groundwater and contaminated land projects.• Conceived innovative opportunity for novel geothermal resource measurement technology in new market sectors• Conducted water infrastructure options modeling for regional water infrastructure companies• Project management including scheduling, budget management and autonomous client consultation • Recognized by a GHD Water Business Group Award for technical modeling on 5-year Water Supply Demand Strategies• Created heightened awareness and advocated the importance of health, safety and environment through the role as GHD Young Professional Representative

This included work in relation to water pipe degradation and aging; stochastic modelling, practical investigations and assisting in the writing of papers. Work achievements include:- A new method was developed for corrosion pit descriptions and estimating annual pipe corrosion rates- Research and investigation of ductile iron, cast iron, polyethylene, PVC and ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) pipes.Other aspects of the work at CSIRO involved higher level pipe asset management research and management programme development.
