- Served as Lead Electrical Engineer for a towed array sonar system during a period of program sustainment. Provided troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of towed sonar systems deployed on US Navy vessels. Implemented several design changes to improve system performance and reliability, including getting customer buy-in for the changes.- Designed, organized, and led several in-water tests of an active towed sonar array. Measured and evaluated the acoustic and electrical performance of the system. Worked directly with the customer during these tests to ensure acceptance. - Performed design verification and bring-up for various custom Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) and assemblies, including power amplifiers, optical and electrical telemetry, and AC/DC power monitoring.- Designed (as part of a small team) a 10 KW air-cooled DC variable load, including performance monitoring, temperature control, and built in safety monitoring.- Designed and wrote all embedded C software for control and monitoring of the DC variable load, as well as a custom Python GUI for control of the load.- Implemented PID cooling fan control of an electronics cabinet deployed on US Navy Vessels, allowing the system to meet audible noise requirements. Verified and tuned control via MATLAB simulation and experimentation, and wrote the controller in embedded C targeting a custom PCB. - Designed and built test fixtures for transitioning the test of PCBs to the production team.- Completed environmental tests on PCBs and electronic assemblies, including temperature, humidity, pressure, and vibration.- Assisted with a company migration to Agile PLM. - Designed and Programmed a Zigbee module to replace Z-Wave modules in existing Home Automation products, including a smart outlet, dimmer outlet, contact sensor, and garage sensor.- Built and evaluated a circuit to measure the average current of low power IoT devices.- Measured and analyzed the effect of battery de-rating in IoT devices; Tested battery conditioning schemes to achieve as much as 20% improvement in effective battery capacity. - Developed Python test scripts to interface with a DMM over GPIB to measure battery life.
