As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Cordia, I have had the opportunity to engage in project engineering and management, driving initiatives that enhance energy efficiency and sustainability. A key project involved replacing two 150 HP electric motors with new Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to optimize pump operations and eliminate energy waste caused by throttling via control valves. My calculations demonstrated significant reductions in power consumption, leading to substantial cost savings and decreased greenhouse gas emissions.In addition to these projects, I utilized a Matterport camera with LiDAR to conduct comprehensive plant scans, enhancing our mapping and documentation processes across multiple sites. Through my work on specifications and field studies, I have gained a stronger understanding of civil and electrical engineering, particularly in the context of utilities. This experience has also given me a much better grasp of steam and chilled water systems, as well as rotary equipment.This internship has been a transformative experience, allowing me to contribute meaningfully to our shared mission of sustainable energy while developing a robust foundation in mechanical and energy systems engineering.
