Responsible for providing a safe operating environment for air operations in a joint military/commercial airport consisting of U.S. Military, Japanese Military, scheduled air carrier, government contract, and civil aircraft with equally diverse performance characteristics, complying with proper wake turbulence and noise abatement requirements. Also control three sea-lanes and Japanese civil aircraft transitioning the airspace. Work closely with Japanese Navy pilots, assign qualified controllers to operation positions, assign trainees to qualified controllers, monitor quality and effectiveness of on-the-job and classroom training, coordinate with airfield management on regular basis, initiate emergency response to aircraft in distress situations and requiring assistance, advise senior management on all aspects of control tower operations, training priorities and helped to designate trainees based on background and ability. Qualified to administer on-the-job training on all control positions in the tower. Also serve as a certified tower visibility observer (TVO).Experience with the following equipment: Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS), Visual Information Display System (VIDS), Airfield Lighting and Control System (AFLCS), Tower Display Workstation (TDW), Crash Phone Circuit and FM Crash Net, Digital Airport Surveillance Radar (DASR), Enhanced Terminal Voice Switch (ETVS), Emergency Communications System (ECS), Joint Flight Data Input/output (JFDIO), Digital Audio Legal Recorder (DALR), and Visual Communications (VISCOM). -
