The thesis paper shows the project carried out about the replacing of refrigerant fluids usually used inside vapour compression systems with low-impact substances. In accordance with the policies introduced in order to limit the environmental impact of fluids, low GWP fluids will be used in the next few years. This aspect also implies the use of flammable fluids.Until now, propane represents one of the alternatives to classic refrigerants. Its use as a refrigerant fluid leads to the adoption of indirect configurations, in order to minimize the charge, reducing both the environmental impact and the risk of fires. Starting from the summary data of the thermal loads of a real building, three different invertible heat pumps have been designed. They differ both in the structure of the machine and in the refrigerant used, and they are able to satisfy the thermal comfort required by the same building.The purpose of this work is to simulate the behavior of the three heat pumps during the entire year, analyzing in detail the behavior in the heating and cooling mode, using a calculation code designed and developed specifically for this application. A technical comparison of the annual performance of the heat pumps is set up, highlighting the critical points and analyzing the internal charges and final consumption.
