Butler Works is located in western Pennsylvania, a one-hour drive north of Pittsburgh. The facility produces stainless and electrical steel. Melting takes place in an electric arc furnace (EAF) that feeds an argon-oxygen decarburization unit for specialty steels. A ladle metallurgy furnace feeds two double-strand continuous casters. The buildings housing electrical-and-stainless-steel melting and casting, hot-roll, cold-roll and finishing operations measure 3.5 million square feet.

Westmoreland Mechanical Testing and Research (WMTR) is a world leader in material testing for the Aerospace, Automotive, Nuclear and Medical Industries. WMTR has the lab capability to perform composites testing , mechanical testing, stress rupture and creep testing, fracture mechanics testing, physical metallurgy testing, fatigue testing, and chemical analysis testing.

The Advanced Coatings Lab is a part of the Materials Processing Department at Penn State's Applied Research Lab (ARL). They conduct research and development on coating applications for different material projects as a U.S. Navy University Affiliated Research Center.
