Tasks included locating or establishing plots in parks and vacant lots, identifying and measuring woody plant species, collecting and processing soil samples, and collecting and entering field data.- Supported the Primary Investigator in her research to assess the impacts of irregular shelterwood harvests on soil carbon and nitrogen availability in a regional forest ecology context. Conducted laboratory-based soil analyses, including net potential nitrification and mineralization assays, carbon mineralization assays, active microbial biomass (estimated by measuring substrate-induced respiration), soil pH, and soil organic matter (loss on ignition).- Supported ongoing work at the Yale-Myers Forest by performing a variety of functions: locating and demarcating research plots; collecting, organizing and analyzing tree measurement data for forest health and species regeneration assessment needs; and invasive species control.- Currently assisting Principal Investigators of a macrosystems biology project with field and laboratory research on soil and leaf litter biogeochemistry. Tasks included assisting with the establishment and maintenance of field plots; collection and measurement of field samples / processes; data entry, checking and organization; and field sample processing and storage in the laboratory.
