I have been in my current position, as a desktop/network support technician with New Era IT, since May 2014. This role requires me to support large client networks at the first and second level. I have worked onsite full-time at four different client schools as part of my role; Hamilton Girls’ High School, Hillcrest High School, St Paul’s Collegiate School, and Morrinsville College. I am the sole IT technician onsite, so must be able to prioritise tasks and work without supervision. The role involves supporting the entire network infrastructure of the client schools, including servers (primarily Windows Server 2008 R2 and 2012 R2, running on VMWare ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V), switches, wireless infrastructure, desktops, laptops, mobile devices and a range of other technologies. As a result I have learned much since I started in the role, and continue to do so, taking on jobs and being involved with projects that were far outside my abilities when I first started. I pride myself on the positive feedback that I receive from my users, and the fact that they are confident in my ability to resolve any issues they are experiencing, quickly and efficiently.
