Construction Engineering InternCaltrans May 2006 - May 2008Sacramento, Ca, UsDuring my last two years as a college undergrad, I held an internship with Caltrans at its Carmel Valley/Carmel Mountain Rd. construction office. Here I assisted the Resident Engineer, Office Engineer, and Field Engineers during 5/805 Interchange Project. Some of the tasks I completed were, but not limited to: constructing spreadsheets for CCO cost analysis reports, the project drainage system items payable, and project submittal status; filling out forms for the end of project item adjustments and punch lists; analyzing plans for quantity takeoffs, and putting together a flow chart for future project organization. I gained field experience by shadowing the field engineer(s) during concrete pours, inlet inspections, and roadway quantity takeoffs. I was also given the opportunity to assisted the Geotechnical Engineer with batch sampling during AC placement/concrete pours and observed nuclear gauge compaction testing.
