My name is Nic Heilman, and I am a Ph.D. student in the Computational, Mathematics, Science, and Engineering department at Michigan State University. This department gives me the opportunity to meld my love for math and theory with my passion for solving real, tangible problems. My current research focus is in fluid-structure interaction, specifically dealing with soft deformable boundaries (typically pertains to tissue mechanics, soft robots, etc.). I am a strong believer in the mantra that code should be shared, and so I am looking to work on open-source projects. I am not tied to spending time in an internship working on my own research. In fact, I was recommended against it, so I would be glad to expand my experience to other facets of multiphysics simulations, high-performance computing, and computational mathematics.
