CUSPE is an organisation run by and for early career researchers that aims to build stronger links between its members and government policy-makers. Founded in 2012, the society strives to support young researchers who wish either to influence policy from within the research environment of the University or to pursue directly a career with the governments of the UK or European Union. CUSPE attracts researchers from across the academic disciplines (scientists, engineers and social scientists), all of whom have a desire to understand how their own research, or science more generally, fits within a broader policy context.

FETE is a one-day intensive transferable skills conference for graduate students of the Division A of the Cambridge University Engineering Department. The conference takes place in three parallel sessions, with presentations - both by students presenting their research and by invited speakers from industry and academia - and transferable skills workshops running throughout the day. There are also poster sessions, which are a further chance for graduate students to showcase their work. The day ends with a drinks reception, where prizes are awarded for the best presentation from each of the three sessions and the best posters. My role was in acquiring industrial sponsorship and organising keynote speakers for the conference. We were able to obtain large industrial sponsorship from Dyson, Cambridge Consultants and Rolls-Royce. Website: http://fete.eng.cam.ac.uk/
