I am the lead developer for Boeing's Design Explorer library and application. Used for design space exploration, Design Explorer leverages legacy Boeing software for design of experiments, modeling, and optimization written in C and Fortran glued together with C++11, and then exposed to engineering clients in Java/Jython/CPython/C#/Matlab.I also work on larger teams that develop geometry software and software used to automate the process of wrapping C libraries into object oriented target languages.

In this position I have been working with many software development teams to help deliver complex mathematical software to engineers within the Boeing Company. Our software exposes legacy mathematics code written in Fortran, C, and C++ to Java, Jython, and Python. The software provides design of experiment and optimization routines, as well as parametric geometry modeling capabilities used in preliminary design and for manufacturing. My roles on the team include designing the build process for the applications, writing unit tests, setting up the automatic testing harness, exposing lower language code to higher level languages, making architectural decisions and refactoring code, and making sure my teammates can continue to contribute to the project.

Starting as a graduate student research assistant and eventually becoming a full time employee, I had opportunities to work on a wide variety of problems at the Applied Physics Lab. Highlights of my efforts at APL include modeling sea-surface wave attenuation due to nonlinear internal waves, speaker identification (signal processing), help modify and run complicated ocean and atmospheric mesoscale circulation models in high performance computing environments, and create a number of web services (mostly backend visualization systems) in support of http://nvs.nanoos.org which are still being used today.
