Contributions to rocket: Xenia-1 Xenia-1: Launch Canada 2nd Place Basic Category 10,000 feet (http://www.launchcanada.org/teams)Flight Dynamics- Ran trajectory simulations using RASAero II, OpenRocket and ASTOS to gather data on the rocket's flight path, wet/dry mass, maximum/minimum stability, apogee, max velocity, wet/dry centre of gravity and centre of pressure.- Utilize computational fluid dynamics (CFD) using software such as Ansys to simulate the rocket's air brakes while moving to ensure successful deployment. Recovery- Designed and organized experiments (tensile stress test - MTI-20K) to identify the optimum amount of black powder required to deploy the parachute by separating the nose cone from the fuselage safely.- Carried out testing of the retention pin release mechanism for the drogue chute (TACO Link) ensuring the optimal amount of black powder is used without damaging the recovery bulkhead. Personal Projects- Calculated the theoretical value of the pressure required to shear the nylon screws holding the nose cone in place to reduce the required testings for future rockets of different designs. - Recorded the loudness of sound (dB) produced with different amounts of black powder used during the testing phase of both TACO Link and parachute deployment producing a 'dB vs Time' graph.
