I graduated from Wesleyan in 2009, and decided to teach English in China for one or two gap years before law school. I met my wife in China, and two years turned into four. Teaching in China greatly improved my public speaking skills, my foreign language skills, and my general efficiency and precision in communication.During this time (2012-2013) I decided I would try to study both US and Chinese law, and set my sights on the Tsinghua LL.M. degree in Chinese Law in addition to my Juris Doctor degree. The financial aid package offered by WNEU was the most feasible option, as it allowed me enough financial freedom to pursue the Chinese degree independently.During law school, I became acquainted with many areas of the law. My experience with the Hampden County DA was very hands-on and made me comfortable with researching issues and making oral arguments.My Chinese Law LL.M. experience opened my eyes to many different legal cultures and methods of operation. I attended this program with classmates from 10 other countries, and enjoyed debating with this diverse student body about a range of global issues. My experience at JunHe also provided me with a more practical understanding of the Chinese legal system, and specifically the Chinese business world.After returning home from Tsinghua, the trade war had put much of a damper on my plans to work in a China-US business capacity. I shifted my focus to serving my community, where I work as a Correctional Officer for the Hampden County Sheriff's Department.
