Professionally, I'm a software developer, most accurately described as a generalist. I started out in the quality side of things as an SDET, which gave me a solid footing in one of the hardest problems to understand in the industry: shipping high quality software. I've since spent time in platform/library development. The QA skills I built, like vetting requirements, developing roll-out plans, and communicating with stakeholders were supplemented and rounded out working for a platform team. Along with the softer skills, I continued my technical growth in development, design (very important for libraries), and architecture. I've since moved into a very challenging space: supporting data science development. While I am not a data scientist, I help bridge the gap between data science and classic software development. Personally, I'm curious. I love to solve hard problems. There are really hard problems to solve in the world; some big, some small. So I do my best to straddle the line between getting work done and solving the fun stuff involved in my work.Specialties: Java Development, Dev Ops, Quality, Spring/Spring Boot, SOA and Microservices, Tech Debt.

Senior Software Development EngineerEgencia, An Expedia Company Mar 2017 - PresentGreater Seattle AreaIn June of 2017, I joined the newly formed Data Science team at Egencia. Outside of some necessary distractions addressing organizational tech debt, I've been focused on two aspects of Data Science at Egencia: helping design and build the infrastructure to support Data Science research and helping the Data Scientists deliver usable features integrated with the Egencia product. There are lots of cloud infrastructure pieces, lots of little bits and pieces to tie things together, and lots of working with other teams to get things integrated into their domains. -
Software Development EngineerEgencia, An Expedia Company May 2014 - Mar 2017Greater Seattle AreaIn May 2014, I joined the Egencia Platform team as a dev, to write common components, shared services, and tools. I've always loved creating tools that my coworkers can use to help them in their day to day work, so I jumped at the opportunity to do it full time. In the transition I'm learning a lot about software development, coding, and project management, plus I get to dig deeper into awesome technical stuff like spring framework, AOP, and application monitoring. -
Software Design Engineer In TestEgencia, An Expedia Company Jun 2010 - May 2014As a developer in test at Egencia, I focused on growing product quality through a variety of methods. I'm a developer, so I enjoyed solving test problems with high quality code, but testing involved a variety of other skills: asking questions to tease out design issues, double checking requirements and acceptance scenarios, ad hoc testing of web apps, designing and executing detailed test plans, collaborating with other people to get them to ensure seamless integration. -
Software Design Engineer In TestMicrosoft Jun 2008 - Apr 2010I cut my professional software teeth at Microsoft as an SDET. I did all the usual use case gathering, test plan authoring, UI and API automation, manual testing, etc. The product I worked on was called Master Data Services, which was an acquisition that ended up changing orgs from SharePoint to SQL Server. It was a centralized repository for dimensional data within an enterprise organization. It facilitated stewardship of core business hierarchies by providing modeling, validation, and synchronization of data. -
StudentWhitworth University 2005 - 2008Whitworth has a great Computer Science program that lets a technically minded student explore the hard science side of software. I spent a lot of time digging into the engineering and math side of things, since that's where the fun (hard) problems are. I coupled it with a degree in Mathematics, which was my true love at the time; calculus was what kept me going day after day, like some people had modern dance, Spanish, or writing.Alongside my classes, I also was a student employee for the Whitworth Data Warehouse. It was a mix of DBA and database development work. I worked along the whole pipeline from extract jobs on a mainframe system, ETL jobs in MSSQL, and cube development in Reporting Services. I also troubleshot issues in daily job processing, developed scripts to automate new ETL processes, and developed a small test harness to reduce bugs during development.
