Responsible for acting as remote guider on console, creating lesson plans, teaching (ITC certified) the astronauts and biomedical engineers (BME’s) on how to use the vision testing hardware utilized by the crew aboard the International Space Station to monitor eye issues experienced on orbit. Likewise I was responsible for developing the remote guidance scripts, in coordination with the customer and ops planning team. The remote guidance scripts are utilized on console to guide the crew through the steps necessary to perform scans of the crew’s retinas while they are aboard the ISS.
As a clinical engineer, I am responsible for providing both clinical and technical support related to Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) therapy and devices. In this position, I interface directly with medical professionals, VNS patients, and various technical and non-technical Cyberonics employees. I am responsible for investigating patient issue/failure reports and determining whether the issue/failure meets the criteria for Food & Drug Administration classification as a complaint. I also assist in the training fellow clinical engineers. Major responsibilities include:o Participate in cross-functional teams assembled to investigate and resolve product safety and quality issueso Determine the reportability (e.g. under Medical Device Reporting regulations) of complaints and failures by asking clinically relevant questions regarding the nature of the failure, and/or consequence to the patiento Identify and investigate complaints and failures in accordance with Company policy, Food & Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and regulations of other governmental agencieso Prepare Medical Device Reports and/or Medical Device Vigilance reports to the FDA and other appropriate regulatory agencies within the required timeframeso Provide phone support directly with doctors as needed for surgeries and post-surgical troubleshooting issues during normal business hours and on a rotating on-call schedule for evenings and weekendso Provide answers relating to clinical indications, contraindications, safety warnings and general clinical or technical guidance as related to VNS Deviceso Research solutions to questions or problems (eg, VNS Therapy system questions, product selection issues) and provides answers according to labeling and clinical or technical data when availableo Prepare written correspondence to doctors regarding results of complaint investigations
