Vce Eal TeacherHaileybury Apr 2019 - PresentNingbo, Zhejiang, ChinaI work as an EAL teacher at Li Hui Li Secondary College in Ningbo, China, a sister school of Haileybury, in Melbourne, Australia. I am the head foreign teacher, working with middle school and senior school students, studying the VCE program (Victorian Curriculum of Education), which is the equivalent of a Grade 11 and 12 education in my hometown. The goal of the program is to ready students to attend university in Australia. I help develop and enrich the school's curriculum, coordinating with teachers in China and in Australia. I teach analytical, comparative and creative writing, persuasive devices, newspaper analysis, spelling and punctuation, grammar, reading and speaking. Though teaching content is occasionally provided from Australia, often I am involved in amending these decisions (from the worksheets to the outcomes and the studied texts), to ensure these appropriately fit my student's capabilities. I develop and grade the assessment tasks (SACS and exams), and go to great lengths to prepare students (via a drafting process, and worksheets that scaffold their abilities, using Guttman Charts to determine students zones of proximal development). I use a variety of pedagogical approaches, from worksheets and teacher oriented classes, to technology, and even games and embodied pedagogical activities, to guarantee classes are equally interesting, interactive and inventive. -

English TeacherWebi English-Taicang Center May 2018 - Apr 2019Ningbo, Zhejiang, ChinaI taught at Webi. I taught students as young as 7, and as old as 50+. I taught Private Classes, where the focus was on grammar, puncuation, fluency and overall language comprehension, and Salon classes, where the goal was to have students orally participate in discussions, to practice their language skills. After each class I made in-depth comments about each student's progression and areas of improvement, and co-ordinated with tutors to assist the students in their acquisition of the language. Though lesson plans were already designed, I added my own content when required to help those in my care. I also occasionally taught English Corner, a one hour discussion on a topic, which I planned beforehand, that allowed students to come together and socialise. Students were ranked at different levels: beginner, lower-intermedate, intermediate and advanced, with other students taking business courses, and I was required to modify my teaching practice depending on the level of the students I was taking.
