I have a chemical and process engineering background and spent three years with Spraying Systems Co. (SSCo) where I worked with various companies in Victoria’s NW, from the CBD through to Mount Gambier in SA and up to Broken Hill in NSW. In my role I provided onsite consultation for clients to diagnose process and manufacturing issues related to their existing spray systems. I work to improve existing spray set-ups by providing alternative solutions which can increase efficiency, enhance production and optimise material consumption. In this role I am involved in all phases of a project; from the conceptual design, liaising with suppliers and subcontractors, as well as being directly involved in the testing and commissioning of systems. These projects vary in cost and complexity and I have completed projects for leading commercial bakeries and beverage companies in the country such as Davies Bakery, Allied Pinnacle, Asahi, Lencia Fruit Juices and C&B Brewery. I work to design and cost a system based on the customer’s requirements and draft up budgets and proposals for all projects. Key industries I work with include food and beverage (inc. dairy and wine), meat processors (smallgoods and abattoirs), pharmaceutical, petrochemical and metal refineries/smelters, timber processors, paper, textiles, and a host of other service industries.I am a motivated individual and I enjoy the continuous exposure to new industries and this has enabled me to gain an understanding of processes and manufacturing practices within various industries. I pride myself on being able to communicate and relate ideas to customers and I always work to deliver not only the best solution but also understanding for the client.

I was given the task of performing a review of the steam usage across the site. After completing this review I identified that there may have been an opportunity for steam savings by dropping the number of process water pumps ( P-890A,B and C) that operate on site (Some the process water pumps are driven by steam turbines). It was calculated that running an additional process water pump costs approximately $47K a year in steam usage.I performed a mass balance of the process water header and compiled a list of all process water users on site using existing PID’s and by following process water lines in the field.I also determined the flow requirements of each user and determined how often each water user uses process water. i.e continuously intermittently, very rarely etc.Hence I was able to recommend whether running two pumps continuously is required and highlight any problems users may face with pressure if only a single pump is running continuously.Responsibilities:• Worked within a polyethylene plant liaising with lead chemical engineer, mechanical engineer and site engineer• Led the sketching of vessel internals• Led a review of the steam and water usage across the Olefins site and recommended new operating conditions to the lead chemical engineer• Developed an understanding of P&ID networks and codes• Participated in daily efficiency meetings
