Nicholas Okeya is a veteran journalist with a bias in communication for development. Through dedication, personal experience and training, Nicholas has acquired a wealth of experience in community development, project management and good governance. He is a trainer of trainers in gender mainstreaming, gender based violence and sexual abuse (GBVS). He was himself trained by The African Women's Development and Communication Network (FEMNET). Nicholas is former chairperson (2005-2008) of Men for Gender Equality Now (MEGEN), an NGO that vigorously campaigns against gender based violence in Kenya. He remains a board member and treasurer in the organization. Nicholas is currently the chairperson of another Nairobi based community based organization (CBO), Njiru Stakeholders Development Forum (NSDF), whose primary objective is to promote agricultural sector activities under the Natural Resources Management (NRM) program and environmental conservation, for improved livelihoods. He is also a director of NAREWAMA, an NGO that promotes renewable energy and waste management. Nicholas believes in the spirit of volunteerism for personal fulfillment and service to humanity, and is ready to offer his personal expertise voluntarily when called upon. He is currently doing voluntary work as Personal Assistant and Advisor to the Chairperson and Founder of Green Africa Foundation, an NGO that is championing the greening of Kenya and Africa. Occasionally, Nicholas provides technical advice on how to engage the (mass) media for visibility, development and marketing, to interested organizations.
