Educational Statement of Beliefs In today’s elementary schools, teachers are judged by how well they help children achieve concrete learning objectives, measured through standardized testing. With this in mind, many educators focus primarily on academic achievement and intellectual performance, with some attention on the side to peer leadership, student-inquiry based learning, environmental education, experiential learning, and emotional intelligence.My priority as an educator is to promote the organic development of children within such a framework. From my experience as a teacher, a sense of a fun spirit is crucial in cultivating an open mind. By teaching with enthusiasm and resilience, I have learned to unleash each child’s unique strengths and abilities, so they achieve as much as possible against the curriculum goals. More importantly, I teach children to love learning and to make their own learning decisions (in context) -- aiding the development and discovery of what they love to do.I have cultivated a passion for community development and being an active participant in social justice issues. Whether it is rooted in the classroom initiatives geared towards environmental stewardship, critical thinking, community building or charity initiatives I am involved in, the power to enact meaningful change in the world is magnified when a group of caring individuals has come together to make a difference. Ultimately, I will always volunteer to teach young children because that’s what I love. Soon to be an Ontario Certified Teacher will let me do it professionally -- developing young children to be lifelong learners who know what they love to do.
