I investigate the next generation thermoelectric, shape memory, and energy conversion materials using a mix of computational methods using high-performance computing, multithread processing, and scripting. During a typical day, I write code using Python and Fortran, generate multi-thread and multicore software, and leverage large datasets to find and predict these new materials. Additionally, I write test scripts and documentation for my code and help to mentor graduate and masters students working on related research.

Developed software for high-performance computing to investigate the temperature dependent properties of complex materials from first-principles calculations. Included in this work was the integration of different software packages into a seamless, and internally documented and tested, Python-based package.

Investigate two-dimensional systems for future electronic device applications using a mixture of density functional theory and density functional perturbation theory codes while developing several Python-based scripts to process the results of these programs. The software was developed in collaboration with graduate students and other researchers to advance our understanding of these thin, and very exciting, materials.

My responsibilities include teaching recitations and laboratory classes to undergraduate students in physics 1200, an algebra based physics course. As part of my responsibilities I hold office hours, offer one-on-one tutoring, develop practice exams, and create lecture matter for my students.

I work in the area of Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics and am currently researching the possibility of magnetic moment formation on graphene, dispersion relations of surface plasmons on chains of metallic particles, and thermal spin transport.

I taught the recitation course and laboratory courses for both algebra based and calculus based introductory physics.

I worked as a line cook, dishwasher, bus boy, and expeditor in a local Mexican Restaurant.

I helped students better understand physics and mathematical concepts while working in the Math and Science Student Support Center as a tutor.

I guest lectured and taught lab classes for algebra and calculus based introductory physics classes.

Managed construction of retaining walls, flower and vegetable beds, water features, and design and construction of water drainage systems.

I was a summer intern at the Grand Rapids Metal Stamping plant where I unloaded presses and did quality control.
