After training with one of the Big Four law firms and getting called to the Singapore Bar in 2012, Nicholas joined the Supreme Court of Singapore initially as a Justices Law Clerk (JLC) to the Judges of the Supreme Court under the prestigious JLC programme, and subsequently as an assistant registrar. As a JLC, Nicholas worked closely with the Judges of the High Court and Court of Appeal on a wide range of civil and criminal cases. In his capacity as assistant registrar, Nicholas adjudicated numerous commercial disputes. After leaving the Courts, Nicholas joined Singapore’s premier dispute resolution firm, Drew & Napier where he rose to the position of Associate Director. His practice covers a wide spectrum of commercial matters, including in the areas of banking, joint venture, shareholder, construction and trust and property disputes. Nicholas specialises in cross-border disputes and frequently advises international clients on matters involving multiple jurisdictions and different legal systems.In 2018, Nicholas started Breakpoint LLC which has since grown from strength to strength and now counts international banks, global MNCs, public-listed companies, state-owned enterprises, international law firms, and high net worth individuals and families as its clients. Nicholas also regularly undertakes probono criminal and civil legal work for the underprivileged. Nicholas has appeared as lead counsel at all levels of the Singapore court system, including in the Court of Appeal. He publishes regularly in Singapore and international journals. His works have been cited by the Singapore Courts and commentators around the world. Until recently, Nicholas was a regular adjunct faculty member in the Singapore Management University where he taught conflict of laws and commercial arbitration, among other subjects.

It has since been referred to in more than 55 Singapore court decisions. The case has also been noted with approval by the UK Supreme Court. - Maldives Airport v GMR Male International Airport [2013] SGCA 16, which laid out the principles for applying for interim measures in relation to an arbitration pursuant to section 12A(4) of the International Arbitration Act. It has since been referred to in 10 Singapore court decisions. - Alwie Handoyo v Tjong Very Sumito [2013] SGCA 44, which contains a thorough treatment of the issue of conversion of scripless shares and unjust enrichment. It has since been referred to in 20 Singapore court decisions.- International Research v Lufthansa [2012] SGHC 226, which clarified that whether an arbitration agreement was incorporated into another contract is a matter of contractual interpretation. This principle was approved on appeal. -
