    Working under the MIT ESP Delve Program, I and my co-teacher, Kenneth Wang, teach a 102-hour course in order to prepare high school students from Boston and neighboring suburbs for the AP Chemistry exam. The course is intended to be a more in-depth and more challenging version of the conventional AP Chemistry course. This course is unique in that it places a stronger emphasis on quantum mechanical principles than does the standard AP Chemistry course. Wavefunctions and energy eigenstates are introduced at a basic level, in addition to their relationship with macroscopic properties of chemical systems. We use basic quantum mechanics to rationalize why bonding between occurs, why materials change colors when their sizes reach the nano-level, why solids are rigid, and a host of other fundamental and basic properties of objects in the everyday world. This being said, we did make sure to cover all of the topics on the AP exam.

    Under the guidance of mentor Glen Kowach, I designed a CVD reactor that ultilizes supersonic molecular beams to avoid premature reactions in the chamber. I then used this chamber to synthesize titanium dioxide nanoparticle films and study the relation between the geometry of the chamber and the morphology of the nanoparticles.
