I help businesses to navigate data privacy regulations and cybersecurity incidents in ways which minimize disruption to their business while fulfilling their legal compliance responsibilities and protecting the rights of ordinary people over their personal information. My practice balances proactive compliance work with incident response work and I have a past client list which includes a variety of professional firms, small and midsize businesses, hospital systems, startups, major universities, government agencies, and Fortune 500 companies. Before going to law school, I worked as a software engineer and have hands-on experience with a number of emerging technologies, including the internet of things and data mining, as well as project and program management. I cut my teeth in privacy as a member of KPMG's cyber consulting practice and still use the collaborative, data-driven approach to problem solving I first mastered as an engineer and consultant.I am a member of the Michigan state and DC bars and have a CIPP/US certification. I speak fluent Spanish, am conversational in French, and am currently learning German. I am passionate about early-career mentorship and feel that it is very important to pass on the wonderful advice and mentorship I have been fortunate to receive.
