Nuclear Shift Test Engineer
CurrentCertified by the Department of Defense and NAVSEA 08 to fulfill the responsibilities of a nuclear shift test engineer on naval nuclear reactor plants:• Manage and coordinate the progress of the test program for the assigned shift in a reactor plant maintenance environment, and ensure the continuity of plant safety by coordinating proper turnover between shifts.• Direct test operations and ensure that all reactor plant operations and maintenance items are performed in accordance with NAVSEA 08-approved documentation.• Concur with commencing any work, operations, or testing of non-nuclear systems that could affect reactor plant conditions, or system status.• Trained in casualty response and initiating timely action to place reactor plants in a safe condition if unexpected conditions occur during the conduct of testing or plant maintenance.• Liaison between regulatory agencies to ensure effective communication while enforcing safety standards.• Oversee work area isolation, lockout tagout process, system draining and/or deenergization, and system restoration at the conclusion of testing/maintenance.• Maintain an active Secret national security clearance; trained to properly handle sensitive information.• Provide training, mentoring, and guidance to assistant shift test engineers.• Maintain a thorough knowledge of S6G, S8G, and S8G prototype nuclear reactor plants including: system design (electrical, mechanical, and software), operating instructions and limitations, reactor safety and protection requirements, chemistry, and radiological controls.
