Nick Smith is a Director in the Advisory Division at One Capital with more than 6 years corporate finance experience, having joined One Capital in 2015. One Capital is an independent corporate finance advisory firm in South Africa, providing differentiated, strategic and financial advice to its clients. These services include advice on mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt raisings, BEE transactions, listings, delistings, capital and balance sheet optimisation, divestment and restructurings as well as secondary placements and sell-downs. Nick has been involved in many high profile transactions advised on by One Capital involving listed and unlisted clients across various industries in South Africa and abroad, during a period spanning almost 7 years.Having completed his articles in PwC’s Banking and Capital Markets Assurance practice in Johannesburg, South Africa and passing the SAICA Qualifying Examination and IRBA Public Practice Examination, he is a qualified CA(SA). Nick has also completed the Level 1, 2 and 3 exams required by the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Institute and is a CFA Charterholder. Moreover, Nick is a JSE Approved Executive, placing first in South Africa for the SDP (Sponsor Development Programme) exam in 2016.Prior to joining One Capital, he spent 5 months travelling and working in the United States and Central America. Nick worked for PwC in Dallas, Texas in the Financial Services Assurance Division where his client experience included auditing mutual funds at Fidelity Investments, as well as oil and gas focused private equity funds at Tailwater Capital.During his 3 years at PwC Sunninghill, Nick carried out a wide variety of audit work for financial services clients, including Barclays Africa Group Limited, Rand Merchant Bank, FirstRand Bank, Ford Financial Services South Africa, Travelex Africa Foreign Exchange, ICAP Holdings South Africa. His main areas of focus were assignments related to retail and corporate credit, regulatory credit requirements as well as structured trade and commodity financing. He also acted as an external consultant to Rand Merchant Bank for three months in order to assist with a special project related to implementation of a new system for financial reporting purposes.
