Nick joined B.A. Blackwell & Associates in 2013 and both leads and participates with many of the companies professional teams. In particular Nick is both in charge of and manages the fuel management program (fuel treatment, fuel break and community wildfire protection planning), legal forestry and various research projects undertaken by Blackwell. Nick participates on various urban forestry projects (danger tree assessments, arboriculture assessments and reports) as well as timber cruising and wildlife/fisheries assessments.

As the Ecosystem Data Specialist my work duties included: mapmaking and various geospatial analytics, advanced data analysis, and report writing and document preparation. We worked with various project partners in the Lillooet region including BC Hydro, various First Nation groups, and local private consulting companies. Specific projects included long-term monitoring of salmonid populations and associated habitat, environmental site assessments, climate change adaptation studies, and public outreach and community development projects.

Primary job duties included the management of a large relational database containing vegetative, soil, and hydrologic data. Duties related directly to data management included, but were not limited to: database QA/QC, geodatabase design and testing, statistical data analysis, and program support for a project team of roughly thirty members. Secondary duties included research design, government and non-government research collaboration, and publication preparation.

Title: District Lead, Research Associate ProgramI have been tasked with completing Land Health Assessments on the Ely Bureau of Land Management (BLM) district. The preliminary work involves doing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing analysis to determine ideal locations for plot level field verification and study. During the summer months, field data collection will include doing Proper Functioning and Condition (PFC) assessments along with quantitative water quality tests, rangeland qualitative and quantitative studies using the Interpreting Indicators of Rangeland Health (IIRH) and AIM methodologies. Finally, data will be compiled post-season field work to be submitted to the BLM office in Reno for an overall landscape study for the entire state of Nevada.

I was the primary curriculum developer and lecturer for an introductory GIS class. This class was given to graduate students interested in research projects regarding natural resource conservation or related scientific studies.

I was a member of an operating remote sensing and geographic information research laboratory that works primarily in the areas of mapping and measuring scientific patterns and processes throughout Canada. I was project manager for my own research thesis which included the research design and implementation, supervision of assistants, project oversight, as well as publishing and presenting research findings to various audiences. 04)I was a member of a Type 3 federal fire engine with auxiliary duties that included search and rescue, felling hazard trees, and various maintenance projects. I spent long hours fighting small and very large project fires some of which were in distant geographic locations. Additionally, I assisted radio communication experts in the programming of handheld and engine radios as well as map making for the logistics team on a large project fire.

Duties at the fire center included: GPS/GIS analysis for various national level fire projects, web design and data management, conference and meeting planning, as well as assisting in budget planning and implementation. Various computer software programs were necessary on a day to day basis and included: the suite of ESRI (GIS) products, Garmin, Dreamweaver, the Microsoft Office suite, and various government managed programs, data, and websites; some of which included: National Fire Policy training, NFPORS, Landfire, and FireBase.

04)I was a fulltime member of a Type 6 wildland fire crew and participated in prescribed burn operations, operating and maintaining the engine for fire suppression, using chainsaws for fire and non-fire assignments, assisting in fuels management projects and planning, maintaining and using fire tools as well as the fire hall. Additionally, I worked in fuels monitoring which included the recording of forest fuel sample data, RAWS weather data, as well as the analysis of GIS and GPS data.

My position in the park had many duties of which a majority included: the mapping and measuring of various natural resource topics using both GPS and GIS data, being a member of a Type 6 wildland fire engine, participating in revegetation and restoration projects as a crew member, youth leadership, as well as various interpretative assignments. In addition to the above duties, I was also responsible for the park's data management which encompassed rare and threatened wildlife and plant data as well as a large amount of digital and non-digital multimedia.

I was a member of an exotic plant management crew responsible for the removal of exotic plant species using herbicide and various physical treatments including felling, girdling, and pulling. We utilized both GPS and GIS in the reconnaissance and management of treated areas and presented this information to aide park managers in their future management plans. Formal training for this position included wilderness first aid, chainsaw use and safety, Federal ATV use, and herbicide safety and application.

I worked at a large college library where the duties included: shelving and organizing books, the checking out of books and media, and finally repairing old books and binding new journal articles.

Work included planning projects, purchasing equipment, laying sod, mowing lawns, planting trees and shrubs, mulching, constructing walkways, and various kinds of rock and brick construction projects.
