At Softrip, my duties were twofold: generate reports for clients and add new features to our main product.Reports were created using SSRS and used all parts of our large, multi-faceted database, from our clients' customers' travel reservations to their offered products to more back-end rules. I would like to point out that in starting this position, my exposure to SQL was limited at best, but I now feel that it is one of my stronger skills.Our product was a web-based portal for our clients to keep track of everything related to building trips and keeping track of their customers' reservations. Part of it was able to be viewed and used by their customers, and part of it was a "back office" only able to be used by our clients themselves. I worked full-stack on our product, making both front-end and back-end changes. Front-end changes could be something like adding a new field into a form or displaying additional data on a public page and were made with HTML and JavaScript. Back-end changes that I made usually amounted to reading and writing the data entered into the product and conferring with our database. I overwhelmingly worked in an area that exclusively used VB.Net for this, but occasionally I would make changes in an area written in C#. Now, while the overwhelming majority of my work on out product was in adding new features at our clients' request, I did perform some debugging as well.At first, the source control we used was Tortoise SVN for the areas I worked in, but over time, we migrated all parts of our system to use Git.

As a helper, I went with pool technicians to our customers' houses and attended to their pools. While the technicians did most of the more complex work, I was always assisting and learning, whether it be replacing pump motors, repiping connections, installing heaters, or opening pools for the summer. In addition to working with the pool equipment, I additionally was expected to clean the pools of our customers, via skimming the surface, vacuuming the bottom, and maintaining the chemistry. The hours were very long, but I was willing and able to work my hardest to get the jobs done.
