A partner with Shumaker's Litigation and Disputes Service Line, Nick is a seasoned civil trial attorney who has extensive experience litigating high-stakes, multi-million dollar commercial cases from inception through jury verdicts.Nick's commercial and appellate practice involves litigating and consulting with clients on a broad range of contract disputes, business torts, trade secret claims, and non-competition, non-solicitation, and non-disclosure covenants. Nick also has extensive experience litigating, arbitrating, and consulting on Employment Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) issues, including withdrawal liability, delinquent contributions, benefit interpleaders, and subrogation.With his primary academic passions lying in history and government, Nick felt a predisposition to the legal profession. At Dartmouth College, he was particularly drawn to study the history, development, and application of the rules and systems that guide our local, national, and international interactions. Nick also appreciated the liberal arts foundation advocated by his alma mater.In law school, Nick developed and refined his legal advocacy skills and began his development into a civil litigator. While at Boston College Law School, Nick was the managing editor of the Boston College Environmental Affairs Law Review and member of the National Environmental Law Moot Court Team.When not at work, having a variety of interests keeps Nick occupied. Besides spending time with his wife and three children, he enjoys playing competitive squash and softball and following his favorite Detroit sports teams. He also appreciates his time outdoors hiking and backpacking and has found himself in such faraway places as Isle Royale National Park, Sequoia National Park, and the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
