Represented ELCA Global Mission to a wide variety of stakeholders and partner organizations across a large geographical area. Provided recruitment presence for the Young Adults in Global Mission (YAGM) program, a yearlong international service-learning program for young adult volunteers. Facilitated conversations, presentations, and large-group events that communicated the YAGM program in particular and the value of global service in general. Utilized social media and the YAGM Alumni Network to identify, inform, and maintain contact with potential program candidates and with program donors. Collaborated with colleagues and organizational networks to create goals and strategic plans surrounding the importance of ethnic, racial, and gender diversity within the YAGM program. Maintained a personal travel budget and reported expenses according to standard expense reporting protocol.

Served as a long-term international volunteer in rural Madagascar through a yearlong service-learning program. Worked alongside local leaders in the areas of agriculture and animal husbandry education, English instruction, rural home-based health care, community cross-cultural initiatives, and conference/event planning. Lived in daily immersion within a small Malagasy community and engaged in close cross-cultural relationships at individual and organizational levels. Developed a lasting passion for the challenges and joys of sustainable global service based in the values of solidarity, mutuality, and interdependence. Learned to communicate proficiently in the Malagasy language. Engaged crucial issues of diversity, cultural identity, and reconciliation within the context of post-colonial rural Madagascar.

Planned and directed outdoor high adventure experiences for adults and youth. Assisted in curriculum development for camp programs, trained seasonal staff members in facilitating the curriculum, and supervised summer staff. Collaborated with adult leaders and volunteers to provide instruction to youth participants in outdoor adventure skills (e.g. backpacking, rock climbing, large-water kayaking), environmental awareness, and team building.Served as a counselor for a weekly residential summer camp. Planned, facilitated, and led regular large group events, small group discussions, outdoor education lessons, high-adventure outdoor experiences, and cabin activities.
