Design And Engineering ManagerLaing O'Rourke Jan 2021 - Oct 2022In 2021, I joined Laing O'Rourke Australia to add highway engineering and design management capacity and capability to their growing highway infrastructure business. As part of Victoria's Big Build, I led the team through the initial tender stages across a tranche of projects for our client, Major Road Projects Victoria as part of their US$1.6bn highway infrastructure portfolio. Following successful project shortlisting, I managed a rigorous design development and value engineering process through the Development Phase that drove the Project's Target Outturn Cost and resulted in substantial cost savings, improved constructability and programme benefits for the project. As this was a collaborative Incentivised Target Cost contract, developing design solutions to meet our client's key project drivers played a significant role in successful contract award. The project included the duplication of existing carriageways, construction of a river bridge, extensive drainage network, soil nail retaining walls and urban design architectural features. The project was situated in an expanding urban area requiring extensive utilities work including gas, telecommunications, water, sewer, and power relocations.I managed a team of multidisciplinary Design Consultants and multiple Specialist Consultants, set up and delivered all design and engineering scope to meet the project's performance requirements through the Delivery Phase. I established the design management systems and processes from inception. I managed Laing O'Rourke's design review process using the latest digital engineering technology to manage internal interdisciplinary reviews, resolve clashes and channel the flow of information to inform design development . Throughout the project I built a strong relationship with our client and led negotiations with key stakeholders. I was a member of the Senior Leadership Team, Project Management Team, and appointed Safety in Design Coordinator. -

As Design Manager I was responsible for managing interfaces with design consultants and driving design and delivery of a portfolio of contracts for complex and technically challenging projects in an urban environment valued in excess of 1.5 billion USD. Working on one of the largest road infrastructure programmes in the world, my achievements included successfully leading the development of an innovative utilities stacking solution used for the first time in the Middle East.
