After 10 years in FMCG and keen to expand my horizons, I joined NewsCorp to expand on my skills in a new sector. One of the most exciting elements of working in FMCG was the level of responsibility held and accountability for results. As I was promoted through roles of increasing responsibility, my exposure to, and training in, the commercial side of the business gave me a broader understanding and insight into the management of businesses, and the business of marketing. The ownership over brands and ultimately a category promoted an entrepreneurial streak and encouraged decision-making from inception to insight, bringing products to market and generating demand for them. Budget management enabled fiscal responsibility, and ambitious financial targets ensured goal setting and a desire to exceed expectations.
