My role as a research scientist at Dermaxon was to manage the synthetic chemistry lab to develop topical therapeutics for various diseases. I placed supplies orders, developed synthesis plans for the research assistants, oversaw laboratory safety and procedure, and ran reactions. Projects in the pipeline where I oversaw the small-molecule production:-Topical therapeutics for peripheral neuropathy and pruritis-Topical therapeutics for various keratinization disorders-Systemic therapeutics for interferonopathies

Fall 2012 - Summer 2018, Berryman Lab (PhD received)I arrived at the university at the same time as my advisor (Prof. Orion B. Berryman). I was responsible for setting up the lab, including all instruments, hardware, and glassware such as Schlenk lines. As such, I took on the role as lab manager. My other lab responsibilities included ordering chemicals, keeping an updated chemical inventory, and general lab maintenance (fixing broken vacuum pumps, repairing hardware, etc.).-ResearchI started my studies on a bidentate, halogen bonding scaffold. This project involved organic synthesis (including air free techniques), NMR spectrum elucidation, diffraction quality recrystallization, and proton NMR titrations. When compared to the hydrogen bonding control molecule, the halogen bonding scaffold showed resistance to increasing solvent polarity in anion binding studies. This research is discussed in a publication in Supramolecular Chemistry, 2015, Volume 28, pages 665-672.I moved from halogen bonding to a project on unconventional binding modes in urea catalysts. This project required synthesis of the substituted ureas, spectroscopic characterization, and catalysis studies using NMR spectroscopy. The ureas in question show interesting binding modes in the solid state (via. XRD studies) and display informative kinetics in solution studies. This research is discussed in a publication in Supramolecular Chemistry, 2018, Volume 30, pages 1004-1010.-Other projectsSynthesis of a halogen bonding triple helicate. I was responsible for synthesizing all novel compounds in the reaction scheme, as well as obtaining publication quality spectra. Results published in Angewandte Chemie, International Edition, 2016, Volume 55, pages 12398-12402.Synthesis of an ASCT/ASCT2 inhibitor, a potential learning and memory drug. This work was done in collaboration with the Kavanaugh lab at the University of Montana. Publication in progress.
